The 2nd annual scientific conference and annual general meeting of the
Nigerian Society of Interventional Radiology took place at one of the
finest hotels in Kano the Bristol Palace Hotel, Farm center, Kano, on
30th July, 2019.
The organizing committee was actually inaugurated in September, 2018,
just a week after the 1st conference for the purposes of early planning.
THE DETAILS OF THE CONFERENCE
The morning session started by 8:40 am, this was chaired by Prof AO
Adeyinka and assited by Dr Sani Ahmadu
1. Survival strategies of interventional Radiology and vascular
services in Nigeria: thinking outside the box: Dr Jameel Ismail,
Consultant Cardio-thoracic Surgeon, AKTH.
2. TACE and portal vein embolization: How I do it. Dr Wael E. Saad
3. Non-vascular interventions: Image-guided breast interventions:
Nigerian Experiences-Dr Zainab Mustapha
Following the 30 min of tea break, the opening ceremony was commenced by
11:00 am as follows:

Vote of thanks by the Secretary, LOC, Dr Yusuf Lawal
After the lunch break, the third session was commenced under the
chairmanship of Prof Tabari, who was assisted by Dr Okafor. The topics
discussed were as follows:
1. Radiation protection and practical safety considerations in
Interventional Radiology: Prof Kabiru Isyaku
2. Endovascular devices by Medtronic
The students and residents teaser sessions were coordinated by Dr
Ifeanyi Ukachukwu, which took about 40 minutes. The winners were
recognized with certificates of excellence.
Furthermore, the successful candidates for the residents and students
scholarship grants (being supported by the NiSIR members in diaspora) were presented with the grant, worth Two hundred and ten thousand Naira only (NGN 210,000:00).

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING AT ALMURJAN HALL OF BRISTOL PALACE HOTEL, KANO
1. To improve the availability of the IR services in Nigeria
through advocacy and closer interaction with stakeholders.
a. Dr Wael Saad was awarded with honorary membership of NiSIR in
recornition of his contributions to the growth of IR in Africa.
b. NiSIR was encouraged to be associated with that of ARIN RADAID
activities in Nigeria.
The organizing committee is appreciative of leadership and members of
NiSIR, industry, resource persons and well wishers for the successful
